University of Ume

Ume? University was founded in 1965 and is Sweden's fifth oldest university. Today, Ume? University has a strong international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. Today the total of students - including those at the postgraduate level is approximately 36,700. Over half of these students are from outside the region. This makes Ume?, the largest city in northern Sweden, a place where different worlds meet. More than 50 languages are spoken - with English widely used everywhere - and there is a thriving community of clubs and societies that represent people and cultures from across the globe.

The Department of Integrative Medical Biology (IMB), an active participant in the BioN, is one of the largest departments at the Medical Faculty of Ume? University ( Including sections for Anatomy, Histology with cell biology, and Physiology, the IMB runs several educational programs at graduate and postgraduate levels. Currently, there are several PhD programs in the field of neuroscience available at the IMB ranging from cognitive studies of brain function to molecular and cellular neurobiology. Strong scientific records of the IMB help to fund several research projects requiring very advanced experimental equipment. Thus, recently a number of experimental setups for cellular imaging combined with patch-clamp technique became available for both research and graduate training. In addition, a new research facility equipped with the state-of-the-art fMRI setup has been established at the IMB with support from the Wallenberg Foundation.
